Thursday, March 9, 2017On Thursday, March 9th our School Counselor, Maria Morales took a group of 30 ASPIRA Haugan 8th Grade students to visit DePaul University
. Students sat through a presentation titled "Begin Your Journey" this presentation, was full of very encouraging and inspiring reasons why the students should aspire Higher Education. Our students were very engaged, and even took notes! Students had the opportunity to also ask the presenter and three current DePaul students questions, some of their questions ranged from,"what helped them get there?", Why did you chose DePaul?, and even asking how their high school experience helped them prepare. Afterwards, student had the opportunity to tour the campus and its facilities.Overall the students left excited, and inspired by the experience. Ms. Cannella 8th Grade Language Arts, and Ms. Kathy Torres Para-Professional, also accompanied the group.AHMS OPEN HOUSE

After the 1st great war – World War I – America saw a great migration of African –Americans from the former slave states of the South to the industrial and urban North. One of the places that saw this movement find a home was Harlem, New York, located on northern Manhattan Island. It would become a nurturing place for African-American Arts, Music and Literature. Join us in our first Harlem Renaissance Fair March 7, 2017 to discover and enjoy the great cultural achievements of the African-American Community.
