This community reading event encourages families to read and grow together. Wonder (R.J. Palacio novel) was selected in a Haugan community-wide election. The novel focuses on kindness, standing up for others, and respect for others' differences. Our families, students, and leaders from across the community came together to read portions of the book in English, Spanish and Arabic. Parents were also able to engage with community service providers and participate in a book exchange where they took home as many books as they could carry!
We would like to thank our leaders: President & CEO Dr. Wanda Figueroa-Peralta, Principal Pablo Ortega, Assistant Principal Jefferson Lim, Dean of Curriculum and Instruction, Yusra Said for organizing and participating in this event. We would also like to thank Alderman Carlos Ramirez-Rosa, the Mikva Challenge, Sarah Holtenkamp - Teen Librarian at the Chicago Public Library, Israel Vargas of Roosevelt University, Rosalva Aguilar of the McDonald's Corporation, and the Infant Welfare Society Of Chicago - from reading portions of the book, to sharing vital community resources, your contributions were incredible!
